They released one album, finished another and toured more than they expected to in 2010. They ultimately had to cut their European tour short in December after their co-leader, Mike Cooley, passed out from illness exhaustion.
But the Athens band isn't slowing down just yet.
"It's been a crazy year," said the band's other founder and Athens resident Patterson Hood. "It's hard on all of us and our families."
Crazy isn't all a bad thing. The Truckers' March album, "The Big To-Do," has proved to be the band's most commercially successful. A growing fan base has meant more sold-out shows and bigger opportunities - DBT opened for Tom Petty during his summer tour.
Hood and Co. already have another album, "Go-Go Boots," set for release in February. They'll preview the entire record Thursday at the first show of the band's annual three-night stand at the 40 Watt.
"Go-Go Boots" is nothing like its hard-rocking predecessor, Hood said. But it's just what the band wanted.
"We decided early when we started recording two years ago that we were making two different records," he said. "They're two different sides of what this band does. We spent a good bid of time over the last year working on 'Go-Go Boots,' and I felt like we got what we were aiming at."
"Go-Go Boots" showcases more of the band's country flavor, albeit with the heavy helping of soul.
The group's Muscle Shoals pedigree is on full display.
There are even two cover songs - both samples of largely unknown but brilliant studio musician Eddie Hinton.
